Girls' Dance Recital 2019

Amberly and Violet have loved taking classes at ADA, the studio I teach at. They are pretty darn cute on stage and make my mama heart beam with joy when I see them up there!

I have all kinds of ideas of what to do with THREE daughters who hopefully love to dance...but for now this is just the ticket at our studio in Riverton! I took a small break from teaching right after Livy was born but I will be back at it come August!

Daddy's camera isn't quite as high definition unfortunately. We'll plan better for Christmas recital 2019 and I'll make sure he has my IPhone!

Here is part of Amberly's Mini Team Dance I caught from backstage:

Um...this was the best. During the finale, Vi got lost with the steps and decided to just book it off stage! ha ha!

HOW CUTE ARE THEY? I die. Obviously.
Growing up dancing was such a huge part of my life, that my heart just sings during recital days (once I get the stressful part of getting everything ready out of the way)!

I still have Amberly dance on Vi's younger team because I LOVE TO SEE THEM ON STAGE TOGETHER! And because...why not? Just more time for her to shine on stage with Vi Vi.
I think Amberly appreciates being the "leader" of this younger team too.

I am always intrigued to see what else I will do with the gift of dance in my life. It is mentioned in my patriarchal blessing! I am so grateful too, it would be too hard for me to give up!

33 and still dancing my way through life...

I sure love my beautiful daughters!

The Birth Story of our Olivia Pearl

Dear Livy Girl,

On the morning of Tuesday November 13th, Dr. Thackeray stripped my membranes in hopes of having you arrive before the week of Thanksgiving. I was nearly 39 weeks and had never carried a baby so long until then. I was more than ready to meet you Little Livy, so long as you were healthy and ready to come!
Photo taken at 39 weeks and 3 days

Tuesday was a normal day, so I assumed the procedure didn't work. The only change was some of the mucous plug gradually discharging throughout the day. By Wednesday evening, my Braxton Hicks became more regular and slightly intensified. I have Braxton Hicks numerous times throughout the day from about 17 weeks on, but these were more consistent. By about 10:15 PM, I told Jon it would be wise for us to both get some sleep in case tonight was the night I went into labor. I was particularly worried about your Daddy and his blood shot eyes, he was exhausted because both of us received little sleep the night before!

By 1:15 AM, the contractions that woke me up were different from Braxton Hicks. They felt more powerful and involved more of my lower body. I finally got out of bed at 1:30 and decided to start timing them. They were coming every 4-5 minutes and lasting about 30 seconds long. After timing them for about an hour, I decided to do my hair and makeup so I would look alive for our first pictures with you! I also finished packing my hospital bag that I had started weeks ago and got some last minute things ready for Nana to come stay with your older sisters.

By about 3:15 AM I decided to make a video clip and talk to you for your movie, which made me pretty emotional! At 3:30 Amberly woke up to use the bathroom and she had a chance to talk to you in our movie too which I thought was so sweet. Your sisters adore you, Livy!

I planned to pack Jon's bag for him in silence, I knew there was a long haul ahead of us and I really wanted your Daddy to get as much sleep as possible before your arrival! But he had heard Amberly talking and woke up a few minutes after 3:30, asking me what was going on. I asked him if he wanted me to pack his hospital bag with a huge smile on my face, and he jolted out of bed.

Looking back we laugh at ourselves: Jon asked if he had time to take a quick shower and I said yes. Then he asked if he had time to do a quick workout on the elliptical and I said maybe not. After he took a shower, Jon gave me a Priesthood blessing for your labor and delivery and in the blessing he mentioned that my labor would be "swift". We decided we better pick up our pace after that and get to the hospital!

We left just before 5:00 AM, and my water broke on the way there! Luckily I was prepared so there was no mess all over the passenger seat...I am super proud of myself on that one. My water broke with Amberly so I always considered it a possibility. Jon and I were excited and giddy and I'm glad he thought to take a fun video clip in the hospital parking lot!

At the admission desk, I got a little emotional answering the staff's questions. It hit me I was about to have a baby! The nurses admitted me right away since my water had broken or as they call it " my waters had ruptured". By then the contractions were intensifying and my nurses were not happy with how high your heart rate was. Jon and I and my nurse agreed that an epidural would help me relax and hopefully your heartbeat would calm down too. The monitoring of baby's heart rate always stresses me out during labor, as with every one of my babies it has been too high or too low throughout the laboring process.

The epidural is a painful procedure (I think!) when it is being placed, but so worth it once it's all in and functioning. Twenty minutes went by, and I could still wiggle my toes and feel every part of every contraction. Cue the panic button...I must have been dilated to a 5 or 6 by then and I was struggling through those contractions. I remember hanging on to the railings of the bed for dear life every time they would surge through my body, and moaning through my exhales to work through them. One thing that was very helpful was some visualization I learned from my Hypnobirthing classes 5 years ago: I imagined my abdomen was a balloon and I had to inflate it and deflate it with every contraction. It really helped me with my breathing during those intense moments. My nurse, Daphne, was extraordinary. She obviously has helped a lot of women with unmedicated births, because she knew right where to push on my legs to give me counter pressure and she knew what to say to me to help me work through every contraction. They were lasting just about one minute or longer and were coming every 3 to 4 minutes. I had to go somewhere I have never gone mentally just to work through them, and this lasted about 30 minutes. It takes time to place an epidural and our anesthesiologist was busy with other patients. (Side note: when he was placing my first one that didn't work, I heard a nurse call for him on his speaker phone for another woman who was dilated to a 7. I could hear that laboring Mama working through her pains and she sounded so miserable and in so much pain, I felt bad he was with me and not with her! Child bearing is not for wimps.)

It was a major relief to see the anesthesiologist return to my room, and an even greater relief to my body when the second epidural that he placed worked! Immediately I felt my toes and legs and then lower body go numb, and I felt like I was getting a massage throughout my muscles which was amazing! I had been so tense and now, I could come back to the present situation. I could actually be there mentally and emotionally with Jon and laugh and have a conversation. Epidurals are truly a godsend for me!
Yes please give me all your warm blankets.
I always get the adrenaline tremors when I'm laboring!

By 7 AM I was dilated to a 7, and I was crossing my fingers my wonderful Doctor Thackeray would make it on time if I went from a 7 to a 10 super quickly. Your Daddy, as usual, was my rock. Any time I was worried about your heart rate, or the epidural being too strong that I wouldn't be able to push as efficiently, he would just calmly reassure me that everything would be okay. He was just as excited to meet you as the rest of us were! He adores each of his girls.

Around 7:30 AM or so, Dr. Thackeray arrived and I was so glad to see him! He has such a calming, soothing influence and I felt more relaxed as soon as he walked in the room with a smile on his face. He was very happy with how we were progressing and said he would be back soon.

He returned around 8:15 AM to check me, and calmly told me I was complete! Daddy was in the middle of sending an email to his work when Dr. Thackeray said it was time to push, so that email ended quite abruptly! I had requested a mirror for the pushing phase, as it helped me immensely for my other babies. By 8:20 or a few minutes after, I began pushing and as soon as I saw your dark hair on your head, I was motivated to have you in my arms! The only problem at that point was, I felt super hot and I kept wondering if I was going to pass out with the pushing. So my nurse counted out loud for 8 seconds instead of 10. Luckily, I didn't pass out! I didn't believe my nurses or doctor when they told me I pushed you out in just about ten minutes - it felt longer than that to me. You were born at 8:33 AM and placed in my arms. My beautiful, calm, angel baby girl - you cried out a little bit but we could soothe you right away. You knew the sound of your mama's and daddy's voices and I was elated to finally have you in my arms.

That moment of standstill perfection...
Daddy calls it a reunion because we knew you before this life.

You are my biggest baby so far at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and 20 inches long! We were shocked you were that big. Daddy and I both thought you would be in the 6's because of my doctor guessing just two days before. We both had fevers when you were born but they went away quickly for which I am grateful. My fever explains why I kept almost passing out with the pushing. They had to do a few extra tests on you but you didn't have any sort of infection causing the fever and you are perfect and healthy and beautiful!

Daddy and I especially love and appreciate how easy it is to calm you down.

You are such a sweetheart.

I have had a rough recovery this time around! Maybe my body is angry doing this a third time? I thought it was a great idea to push you out so fast but maybe it makes the recovery more painful later on. Regardless, you are more that worth it and we are all completely smitten with you. Olivia Pearl, you are a complete angel. Your Mommy, Daddy, and older sisters 100% adore and love you.

Olivia Pearl, we feel so blessed to have you join our forever family!

With Love,
Mom

August - October 2018

Parenting is full of ups and downs. We choose to focus on the ups. Those moments of standstill joys are what we live for. Jon and I adore these girls and all that they bring to our lives! We are so excited to bring another November Baby into this Girl Party. Good thing Daddy is our rock!

How Desperately Would You Fight?

Heeding the signs warning me that I might pass out in the shower, I sit down in my bathtub and let the hot water fill to the brim. I rest my back on the cold porcelain and close my eyes. Deep breaths.

On the other side of the shower curtain I hear my children laughing with their adoring daddy.
My beautiful, perfect daughters. One so mild, the other so wild. They are my universe.
Their gleeful giggles are the purest notes of music to my ears and my soul sings: I am alive.

Tears of gratitude fall down my cheeks; I allow them to fall freely.
What if this shower curtain was like that veil that prevented them from seeing my face, feeling my arms around them, squealing in delight from Mama's tickles?
What if I could see them and hear them, but they could no longer hear or see me?

I thank my Father in Heaven for allowing me to stay.
With everything I have in me, I would fight to remain here with the three of them. And to be able to stay and bring more of these precious souls to our family.
To grow, to struggle, to ache, to love, to learn, to cry, to hurt, to stretch, to laugh, to dance, to play, to sing, to live. To be in the present day in and day out. And to choose to have joy every day.

I would fight. My purpose is here and now.

How desperately would you fight?

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Amberly Faith

I love hearing her sing. Or shall I say, my heart melts and I die a little of happiness every time I hear that little voice. Can she please stay 3 years old for at least five more years?

Clips from Fall 2016

I get to spend every day with them.
They depend on me for food, cleanliness, play, safety, learning, and fun.
My calling is to love, to nurture, to teach them who their Heavenly Father is.

There truly is no greater gift than to be their Mama.
I am the luckiest.

And motherhood is saving me.

I love you both to the moon and back, my Amberly and Violet!

Violet Girl at 8 Months

Just like that, my Violet girl is 8 months old!
Violet, you have 4, let me repeat, 4 top teeth that seemed to pop out all at once.
Those were some rough nights :/  but we love you anyways.

You started sitting up on your own around 7 months and you are scooting and rolling all over the place whenever you get the chance. You love to play with your tongue and blow bubbles and make the cutest babble sounds on your wrist with Daddy's help. It's hilarious!

You say "Ba ba ba ba"
"Dah da da da da"
and "Ma ma ma ma ma"

You love and I mean love to eat solid foods and I don't think you'll be nursing as long as your sister did. You light up any room with your wide-open smiles and bright happy eyes.

We just adore you Lady Violet Aurora!

We joke about your little personality and how you go from 0 to 60 with that temper of yours.
And you are LOUD when you're angry, my spirited little soul. We tried to capture those upper teeth of yours in these photos.

You still love your older sister, albeit she is getting rougher and rougher with you which obviously isn't your favorite. You two girls are our entire universe and I will do my best to teach you to be best friends.

 8 month pictures with Daddy.

Amberly has started copying Daddy and also calls you her "Little Chunky". Needless to say, we're all pretty crazy about those rolls on your little legs and arms. The.best.

We are so happy you came to our family.
Thanks for being a such a Mama's Girl and making me feel like one in a million whenever I walk in the room. You just light up and laugh when you see me and it lights up my soul. I love you, Baby Girl!

Violet Aurora at 6 Months

Lady Violet
What a ray of sunshine you are in my life!
And in your daddy's life.
And pretty much anyone who looks at you because chances are you'll give them a full out gummy smile.

Now that you are sleeping 11-12 hours every night you are happy. Furthermore, MAMA is happy and now we are all having so much fun! You started sleeping through the night at 4 and a half months.
And somewhere between then and now, you even graduated from the laundry room and you sleep soundly in the same room as your sister!

It was a day to celebrate for sure. I am still so so so grateful that you are now sleeping through the night. That was a long road and so much work but we did it, Baby Girl!

You actually enjoy tummy time as long as you don't get bored! That little smile...

Your sis is learning how to share with you and how to take care of you.
She always smiles when she sees you and my goodness do you adore her. You look for her and your eyes always follow the sound of her voice. I love watching you interact, it is so rewarding. (Except for when Amberly steals your toys, etc)

5 months

My little snuggle buddy. I still try to take naps with you a few days a week because I know I will blink and you'll no longer be a baby. :(

We love love love your cheeks and your chunky legs!

You have stolen my heart.

And you still have a bit of a temper. Mostly if you get bored you want everyone to know about it!

A few Sundays ago, all Mommy and Daddy wanted to do was take a nap but you kept blowing bubbles and grabbing our faces and obviously weren't too keen on the idea. It's cute now but we were pretty tired at the time!

My world.

You LOVE the water. You just coo and kick and splash the entire time, no matter how tired you are.
We love our family swim days. :)

And while you are still my spirited little one, you are such a little sweetheart!
So darling.

I am crazy about my new double stroller, and even more crazy about being a mom to you girls.

At six months...
You weigh 16.7 lbs (50th percentile)
You are 25.75 inches long (48th percentile)
Your head is 16.4 inches (25th percentile)

Your two bottom teeth popped out the day after Mother's Day and it looks like more are coming! SO CUTE although I'm always sad to say goodbye to the completely gummy grins.

Your hair is growing on top albeit it is a painfully slow process! Ha we do love the little tuft of dark hair right at your neck line though, you get lots of comments on that awesome little mullet you've got going on. :)

You love and I mean love eating solid foods. Our first try with the avocado was kind of a bust because I didn't mash it up well enough for you and it all came back up. Second try with the banana mashed up really well was a success. I think currently your favorite food is peanut butter or watermelon though. You get pretty excited about getting those flavors in your mouth! You have also tried broccoli, strawberries, apple sauce, rice, and today you loved trying some of Amberly's green smoothie.

Your eyes are changing. They still look blue sometimes if you're wearing blue but they seem more of a dark green/hazel color these days just like your Grandpa Mecham. :) You are breathtaking.

We adore you and the light you spread every day. You are perfect. And life is good.
