Not Neglecting the Journal

While the world of blogging is a great thing and has the benefit of loading pictures in seconds, let us remember our old-fashioned journals. Do not neglect that little book on your shelf that may be obtaining a thicker and thicker lining of dust on its outer cover.

Benefits of journal writing (the old-fashioned way):

  • There is something so real about seeing actual handwriting on an old page, and it is more personable than the text on a computer. The author of the entry wrote it on that very page, allowing more of a connection with him/her.
  • One may be more inclined to write about deeper, more personal things in his/her actual journal. Blogs are open to a greater audience and therefore have a greater chance of being censored by your subconscious.
  • Blogs tend to be about on-the-surface topics.
  • Journals allow you to practice your good old-fashioned penmanship. What a beautiful way to express yourself.
  • Computers may crash down one day. Ya never know...
  • There is something so special about obtaining a journal from a relative who has passed away. It feels like a piece of that person is still with you.
  • I hope to leave my journals with my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.
I love blogging. It is relaxing and fun, and what a great way to know what is going on in the lives of your friends! But I hope to never ever neglect that little brown book that waits for me on my book shelf every morning.
